Francesco De Franco, an enologist agronomist from Cirò, decided to take care of the family vineyards in 2008, with the help of his wife Laura, a cultural operator from Friuli, north-east of Italy. Francesco and Laura manage the property vineyards following the organic approach, avoiding the use of any chemical compound both in vineyards and cellar, except for a suitable addition of sulfites just before bottling. They own about 8 hectares of vineyards in Cirò, between 20 and 80 meters above sea level, facing the Jonio Sea on the eastern cost of Calabria, on marls and clay soils; the oldest vineyard was planted in 1967. 90% of the grapes are Gaglioppo, plus small quantities of Magliocco and Greco Bianco. Francesco's wines are a wonderful expression of this amazing terroir: medium bodied, elegant and fresh with intrigung aromas of wild red berries, garrigues, mediterranean spices, iron wire, leather and liquorice root. Jancis Robinson awarded 'A Vita Cirò Classico Superiore Doc 2009 with 17/20.
