De Vescovi - Ulzbach
Giulio De Vescovi is young, passionate, ambitious, proud of his land and his traditions. He loves fine wines, and devotes all himself to every single detail of his job. The De Vescovi family is growing vineyards since more than 300 years when Vigilius De Vescovi (in the late 17th century) came to live in Mezzocorona.
Giulio started to vinify his grapes, coming from 6 ha of Teroldego vineyards, from vintage 2003. The vineyards have been planted between 1950 and 1995, in the heart of Teroldego Rotaliano appellation at an altitude of about 200-300 meters on deep alluvial soils. The training system is the traditional Pergola for the old vineyards (1950 and 1960) and Guyot system for the vineyard planted in 1995.
Giulio crafts only 2 cuvèe of Teroldego; the so-called classic cuvée comes from the pergola vineyards, it is fermented in steel tanks and aged in big oak vats for about 1 year. The top cuvée, named Vigilius, is a stylish Teroldego with great spices on the nose, along with blackberries and wild red berries. On the palate is elegant, luscious and velvety with an intriguing note of ashes in the final. Vigilius is fermented in oak vats and aged in barrels for about 20 months.
