Ronc di Vico
Only 6.50 hectares (about 25 acres) planted in the northern area of Colli Orientali del Friuli Doc, in Savorgnano del Torre. This is one of the grand cru of Friuli; the soil is made of layers of sandstones, limestones, clay and marls of eocenic origin (between 34 and 55 millions years ago). This area is definitely cooler than the rest of the appellation, thus giving rise to slightly less alcoholic wines, just a bit more acidic and extremely aromatics. The grapes are Tocai, Refosco, Merlot, Picolit and Verduzzo . The Tocai vineyard has been planted in the 50's. Gianni Delfabbro and his family have been always grown vines, selling grapes to other producers, and only in the last few years they came to the decision to bottle their own crop; and the first results are just amazing. Truly outstanding wines, pure expression of this wonderful terroir. Gianni Delfabbro lines up some of the finest wines today available in Italy.
This is what Antonio Galloni says about Ronc di Vico wines on #199 of Wine Advocate: " Ronc di Vico remains relatively unknown, despite having released a number of fabulous wines over the last few years. Proprietor Gianni Del Fabbro learned his craft from one of Friuli’s top growers and has since made the most of that experience. A natural approach to viticulture and winemaking inform these soulful Friulian wines."
