COMPANY PROFILE
Fontechiara is a small winery located in the Northeast area of Piedmont. We produce high quality red wines, that are faithful expression of the territory as they are made with native local grapes like the famous Nebbiolo and the ancient Vespolina.
We choose to make our wines with single grapes, thus our 100% Nebbiolo or Vespolina, and as expertly made blends, where each grape lends its strength to create unique wines. All our wines are DOC
Our vineyards are planted in the foothills of the Alps. They are situated amongst the foothills, facing southeast and are planted on a lightly acid terrain. Within a few kilometres of our hills, at 350 metres above sea level, you’ll find two lakes, Lago Maggiore and Lago d’Orta, which influence the local climate. In this area you will also discover archeological finds of Celtic civilization.
About Us
Fontechiara is the work of passion and love of the Ferrari family. Born and grown up in a rural region, after a long period dedicated to other businesses (quite different from vine-growing), the Ferraris decided to go “back to the country”, and started by renovating an old farm abandoned for years near Borgomanero, to establish a winery.
The name Fontechiara is a combination of two names: it’s a tribute to Chiara, and to the water spring, in Italian “fonte”, found in the property by a water diviner.
Though Fontechiara is fairly young it has grabbed the attention of the local community and often is chosen by the local government to represent the area and its wines in the mission to foreign countries. It has racked few awards
