Brunello di Montalcino Selezione Prime Donne
The great 2007 harvest, rated 5 stars, underlines a turning point at Casato Prime Donne, and for its entire staff. This is the first great vintage that has been able to make the most of the new vineyards. In fact the vines demonstrate their quality potential only after their fifth year, and the Ardita vineyard, at the top of the hill at Casato Prime Donne, well ventilated and facing south, was planted during the winter in 2001.Today 11 years on we can say that it is a beautiful vineyard.
The increase in quality, which year after year, accompanies the investments and the care and attention given by the grape-growers and by the cellar staff captained by Barbara Magnani, has been noticed and appreciated by the tasters of the Prime Donne project. This Brunello comes from the first winery in Italy with an all female staff, and it has a panel of female tasters who choose the type of wine and it’s ageing in barrel. They are the English Master Wine Maureen Ashley, the Italo-American Pr Marina Thompson, the German wine shop owner Astrid Schwarz, and one of the best Italian sommeliers Daniela Scrobogna. The last two are particularly diligent and consequently decisive in the choices made. The Brunello Prime Donne is a flagship for female winemaking and its objective is to emphasize women’s’ role in the production and consumption of wine.
